Get The Tuck Out Of Here

Tuck Lee

Plink caught up with Singapore’s Kings of Cool, Jeremy Hauw and Hauw Wee from Tuck Lee Ice. The General Manager and Group Managing Director of the historic ice company let us ask them ridiculous ice-related questions until they pretty much told us to get the Tuck out of here (well, get out of their office).

Do you know the difference between rapper Ice T and Ice Cube?

JH: I only know Mr T from the A Team.

How would you sell ice to an “Eskimo”?

HW: You tell the Eskimo*, ‘Hey, if you put your own ice in a glass of brandy it’s not going to be nice. The snow eats up all the dust and bacteria. Our ice is pure.’ Now, tell me how to sell a comb to a monk.

*The word Eskimo may refer to some members of indigenous people in Canada, Alaska, Greenland, and parts of Siberia but not all indigenous people in those regions.

Hey woah no I ask the questions. What gives you the chills?

JH: When fork and knife meets plate. It chills for like five seconds *shudder*.

How do you stay cool?

JH: Lime Sorbet and matcha ice cream.

HW: Sit in a Singapore movie theatre.

How many ice cubes do you have in your drink?

JH: Depends on what I’m drinking. If it’s a high quality whiskey, then one of our giant round whiskey cubes. If it’s vodka Red Bull, then as much ice as possible.

Yeah vodka Red Bulls, ugh. Do you ever go to ice bars?

HW: I do but it’s too cold, it’s like -5 degrees Celsius. It would be nice to open an ice hotel in the USA though. In cold countries, the hotel runs itself, but in Singapore… you need a lot of energy.

Yes, you should open one up in Canada. What’s your favourite icebreaker at a house party?

JH: ‘Hey, did you bring a pack of ice?’

HW: It depends on who is paying for the drink.

Speaking of dranks, do you like your margarita frozen or on the rocks?

JH: Slushy. I’m not a big tequila fan. On the rocks you can taste the booze more.

What do you think of Vanilla Ice?

JH: Get the Tuck out of here.

Wait wait! One more question, why do you like Plink?

JH: We’ve been working on the idea of flavoured ice, and it came at the right time.

HW: Because we can finally sell ice to Eskimos*
